Eagles and Angry Birds

On the way to church Sunday morning  we saw 2 bald eagles.  They were flying north up the river downtown and flew right above Kellogg as were driving over the river.   I had never seen one up so close in the wild, really very pretty, majestic birds.  We talked about them for a few minutes on the remainder of our drive.  Once we got to church, the experience of the eagle sighting faded away and was surpassed with chatting, greeting and brief conversations of, “how’s your week been” etc.

As the worship service was transitioning into the slower tempo songs, I took a deep breath and asked the Lord, “What are you thinking this morning?  What are you saying this morning?”  The vision of the eagles we had seen earlier came back to mind and the Lord said, “ The flying eagle anointing”  Rev. chapter 5.  I had been doing some study on the living creatures around the throne, on revelation for application of what the various creatures mean to the different church ages.  If you study the history of the church there are time periods where you can definitely see where there was need for a focused  anointing for that of a lion with the first century church, into the anointing of an ox for the period when so many believers in Jesus were martyred.  Then the creature with a face like a man resembling the reformation of the church with Martin Luther.  To the present time where it seems we are living under an ever increasing revelation through the Holy Spirit.  Represented by the creature with a face like a flying eagle.

Now for the angry birds part.  This game has been around for a few years but, I had never played it because knowing my personality,  once you start, well, it’s not over until you have conquered not just one level but ALL the levels!  So, I choose not to get started.  Well, we had overnight company this weekend  and sitting around relaxing in front of a nice fire we all decided to get out our various electronic devices and try out some Angry Birds games. (Then 3 hours later! And yes, the uninstall function in the app maintenance menu has been utilized)  Now, I did not realize this game had an actual “plot”. I thought people were just launching these birds to knock things down.  Turns out some pigs have stolen the eggs from the birds and of course the birds are, well , they are angry.   It is not my intent to spiritualize the Angry Birds game, but just think about it for a minute.  Some pigs have stolen eggs from some birds and now the birds are in a never ending position of warring against the pigs to get their eggs back.

What I really started to see that made me curious, is the fact that for a few years now this game has been a huge fad, consuming who knows how many hours and it has come at such a time as this when there is a present focus of possibility for all believers, on ever increasing  revelation through the Holy Spirit symbolized by a  flying eagle anointing.  Does anyone else find this curious?

I then started to see flashes of scenes showing the church (possibly seen as angry birds) caught up in wrestling with flesh and blood (pigs) to get back what has been stolen (eggs) which could represent the future.

Now if you are spending hours playing any game, well, you need to stop, but that’s not really the question or the message..  The question is what are you caught up in?  An angry birds anointing where you are wrestling against ever changing never ending obstacles? Or are you coming before the God of all things are possible to mount up on eagles wings and soar into heights of revelation for dreams, visions and strategies of Our Father’s kingdom that must come here on earth as it is in heaven. These are the things of eternal value that are worth going after.   I believe the Father is headed toward the restoration of all things and among those things is the testimony of His beloved son Jesus in the earth.  The Son of God is taking His rightful place of ruling this earth and we, yes you, are being called to know your God so that you can stand and do mighty exploits!  You are being called to look and see the Lord as He truly is so that you will see Him and say, here am I send me!
