The fall is upon us.

People are busy turning their attention away from the summer months and vacations and back toward school and work schedules. They are finishing projects on their houses before the weather turns cold and winter arrives. People are adjusting and readjusting schedules for sports, exercise, music rehearsals, projects, clubs, and meetings. For many this can be overwhelming. They are challenged with finding time to fit everything in. For some just trying to “keep up” is the best they feel they can do.

Unfortunately there are many people who never, “set a course,” for their life. What I mean is, some people just go with the flow and let everyone else’s schedule dictate when and where they are going. They give very little thought to where they are headed and worse, where they will end up.

In Psalm 127:1 we find the verse, “Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it;” (NKJV). Isn’t it interesting that the verse doesn’t say that, “unless the Lord builds the house, it won’t get built?” It says, “They labor in vain.” The Living Bible translates this verse, “Unless the Lord builds a house, the builders’ work is useless.” Again, notice it didn’t say the builder didn’t get the house built. It says the work is useless. In other words, the builder used the wrong set of blueprints, or even worse no plans at all!

I understand how busy and rushed individuals and families are today. I am not trying to bring condemnation upon anyone. What I am trying to do is remind or bring awareness to the fact that unless we take time to plan where we want to go we most likely won’t end up where we wanted to be.

Like the carpenter who builds the house with the wrong plans and looks up after the job is completed only to recognize he built the wrong house. All the work was in vain. The first step in any plan is to ask the question, What is God’s plan? What does God want me to be investing my time and effort in? This is one reason I refer back to Psalm 127, it says, “The Lord must build the house” if it is to not be in vain, and truly have lasting value.

Where are you plugging in this fall to receive Godly teaching, support, and fellowship? What is your plans for spiritual growth and investing into the lives of others? If you don’t have an answer I want to encourage you to consider joining a Life Group. Make being involved in a life group part of your plan for spiritual growth. See the big picture, you need a Life Group and Life Groups need you.

You are an important part of the body of Christ. The Lord has a wonderful plan for your life, but you won’t be able to live out that plan if you just “go with the flow,” allowing everyone else to make your schedule for you. It is up to you to set your priorities and take responsibility for the direction of your life. Being involved in a Life Group is a good and Godly decision. Determine to get involved and grow with other believers. Make plans now so other things don’t fill up your schedule. You are blessed to be a blessing. Join a Life Group and build upon a sure foundation.

Blessings,
Pastor Kit
