Across the nation, students gather this month to protest national events.  Wichita State Student Body President, Joseph Shepherd, gathered a crowd on Wednesday getting people hyped and impassioned to “fight”.  In the natural this looks like a revolt against government and God given authority, but through the eyes of faith, this looks like a group of people searching for something worthy of their entire lives.

Meet Brennan.  Brennan came to KU searching for that worthy pursuit.   He was transformed by Christ at KU and now works for Called to Greatness (the campus ministry connect to New Life) at our very own Wichita State University.  Here’s a short interview with Brennan:

How would you describe your faith when you came to KU?

I arrived at KU in 2012 with a desire to attain worldly success. Although I believed in Jesus, I cared more about myself than I did about sharing His love with those around me.  I was not actively pursuing Jesus when I arrived to KU, but He was sure chasing after me!

What happened during your Freshman year?

I met several people from CTG (Called to Greatness) during my first weekend in Lawrence.  It was through them that God began to speak to me and challenge me.  One question I asked myself that year was, “What does a life of peace and freedom look like? How can I attain it?”  It was amazing to see how God, over my freshman year, radically transformed my heart.  At the end of that year, I was living the very life I had hoped for – freedom and peace through Jesus Christ!

Since then how has your perspective on life been transformed?

Since my freshman year, I now see people the way God does and I eagerly look for opportunities to pour out that love to those around me.  He has taught me that a life laid down for other people is a life found.  The Holy Spirit has given me such great freedom and peace in my life.  I now chase after Jesus rather than the passing pleasures of this world.

What brought you to Wichita?

A phone call from Austin Smith last spring was the first time I was invited to move to Wichita to be a part of what God is doing on the campus and in the community through CTG.  This opportunity seemed challenging and exciting and I wanted to play a small role in it.  I felt God giving me the green light and I made the move!

What do you want to see accomplished during your time here in Wichita?

I want to see young people ignited with the transforming love of Jesus! I want to love people with all that I have and serve them expecting nothing back in return.  I had people speak God’s love into my life years ago and I now eagerly desire to do the same. God is raising up a new generation of leaders in Wichita!

Boom!  A life laid down for Jesus.  Let’s pray for Brennan and Called to Greatness in Wichita that not one or two would follow suit but that a whole army of young people would finally find that ONE THING worthy of their entire lives!
