Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.” – 1 Kings 19:11-13
I know there may be some people who think my style of leading worship is different or maybe even strange. It might seem awkward when I get personal in the words I express to Him. Others may not like it when I encourage the congregation to “sing your own song” and things like that.
I totally understand that and I’m never offended by it. The reason why is because I know my purpose in leading worship, and that is to help create an atmosphere where people can hear from God and respond any way they’d like. Everything I do on Sunday mornings is an effort to do that.
I love great sounding music, but I love hearing God’s voice more.
I love when I don’t make mistakes on Sunday mornings, but I love God’s voice more.
I love when people appreciate my efforts, but I love God’s voice more.
So my question for those reading is, how much do you love hearing God’s voice?
I think Elijah is so awesome. Really, I think anyone in the Bible who regularly heard His voice is awesome. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah is scared and running from Jezebel. Yet, he was so well conditioned in his life to hear God’s voice that in the midst of all his fear, frustration, and confusion he could still hear God’s voice. When Elijah encountered God, the Bible says God was not in the wind, earthquake, or the fire. The voice of the Lord was in the gentle whisper.
If you have trouble hearing God’s voice I have to encourage you with these words: IT’S SO EASY! I really think most believers hear His voice daily, they just confuse it with their own thoughts (remember, His voice is like a gentle whisper). Your mind is like a filter. God is speaking to your spirit and then the message is being filtered through your mind. Beloved, if you are in the process of renewing your mind with the washing of the Word, then don’t be surprised if His voice sounds a lot like your own thoughts!
I encourage everyone to really go after His voice. Don’t just settle to hear Him every once in a while. Make it a habit to listen for His voice regularly throughout the day and don’t be surprised when supernatural things start happening!
God bless you awesome, wonderful, amazing, lovers of Jesus!
God Bless,
