We are learning that the grace of God is not a partnership where I do something and then the Holy
Spirit is compelled to do something. Rather, the Grace of God flows into the weak areas of my life
enabling me to do what is impossible without the grace of God.

James 4:6 tells us, “But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this
evil tendency and all others fully). That is why He says, God sets Himself against the proud and haughty,
but give grace [continually] to the lowly those who are humble enough to receive it).” The loving power of
the Holy Spirit will flow into our lives only to the level that I will humbly ask the Lord to invade my being.

It is so easy to get caught up in a world centered on performance and outward show; natural ability is
revered. Yet in James, the Lord says that He actually sets Himself against the proud, those who are self
sufficient. Frustration mounts as the revelation comes that God has directed you to do something, lay
something aside, pick up something, or give something, any of which no matter hard you’ve tried you are
unable to hit the mark.

Andrew Womack often states, “God doesn’t have any qualified people.” “He almost always asks
you to do something that is impossible in your own ability.”

Romans 7:18-19 says, “For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is
present with me but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do;
but the evil I will not to do I practice.”

Through the wisdom of God, we find that the law is good at enlightening us in what action should
be done. It is unable to empower us to walk in holiness. Paul goes on to tell us in Romans 8:13 “For if
you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you
will live.” It is through the Holy Spirit’s power that we succeed. We lay aside something, pick up
something, or give something through God’s grace enabling us to do it.

In Zechariah 4:6 “So he answered and said to me; This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel; not
by might, not by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord.” So the Spirit of God brings to those who will
receive it the dunamis power of God to meet every evil tendency we face.

It is easy to forget that our Lord Jesus paid such a precious price to lift up lost, hurting man to the
throne of grace. This revelation of that love is what impels us to go God’s way. 2 Corinthians 5:14 tells
us,”For the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us, because we are of the opinion and conviction
that [if] One died for all, then all died.” Kenneth Wuest in the Expanded New Testament writes this verse,
“For the love which Christ has [for me] presses on me from all sides, holding me to one end and prohibit
me from considering any other wrapping itself around me in tenderness, giving me an impelling motive.”

Prayer
Father how very grateful I am for the growing revelation of Your grace and love. Strengthen
me Lord, for I need Your grace active in every area of my life. I need Your power to deliver
me. Forgive me when I’ve tried to deliver myself. Help me to walk with the Holy Spirit and
Your glorious love guiding me, holding me to Your end and prohibiting me from any other
way. May the love that You extend toward me wrap itself around me giving me an impelling
motive to go your way and no other. In Jesus name I pray – Amen.

Blessings,
